Smashing Pumpkins At FenwayPark

Smashing Pumpkins

I’ve wanted to see the Smashing Pumpkins live since 1995, and this past August, I finally got my chance. It felt surreal to check this off my bucket list after almost three decades of waiting.

The performance itself was incredible—Billy Corgan still has that enigmatic stage presence, but watching him, I couldn’t help but wonder, “Is Billy Corgan a vampire?” As much as I enjoyed his performance, he seemed slightly out of place in the outdoor stadium setting. The sunlight and open air didn’t quite match the haunting, atmospheric tone the band is known for.

I couldn’t help but think how the energy might have shifted in an enclosed arena. Imagine the controlled lighting, the enveloping darkness, and the acoustics amplifying the band’s signature sound. That setting seems like the perfect match for the Smashing Pumpkins—drawing the audience deeper into their unique sonic world.

Regardless, it was a night I’ll never forget. To finally hear those iconic songs performed live, surrounded by fans who’ve loved them just as long as I have, was truly unforgettable.
